I find it hilarious when people preach that in order to be a true artist, you must never trace, because that’s how the masters did it
which is really funny because the masters traced too
using different methods, sure
but for the most part they traced.

somewhere the line got blurred and “tracing” became synonymous with “copying” and tracing became taboo.
in my humble opinion, a quote-unquote true artist can and does do both, but adds their own style and/or meaning to the piece
creating duplicates (i.e. copying) only shows you can utilize a medium
tracing an aspect of an existing image and integrating it into a different composition to relay a new image or concept shows you can create art

shout out to humans who don’t mind being called dawg
shout out to dogs who will let you call them anything so long as you say it in a happy, friendly tone.
